My super talented friends Meesh and Alex Zablotsky just opened up their shop. I know what I’ll be having framed soon. Please check them out and support. :)
Desmond Dekker photo by Jiro
"These men were some of the pioneers of ska and reggae music in the late 1950s and early 1960s; the originators. As an avid 60s reggae fanatic growing up it was a dream to meet these men, let alone photograph them as they came through town.
Shot in Los Angeles around 2005-2006, half of these men have since passed away.
Regardless of their massive contributions to the creation of ska and reggae music, they mostly still maintain a status of relative obscurity outside the world of cult notoriety.”
I am really enjoying this photoset by Jiro Schneider
Side note: I remember meeting Jiro back when I partied in the 60’s Mod and Rocksteady scene (early 2000’s) … he’s tall as f*ck! He always had a camera with him. Super cool dude.
Next month… When I was a youth i always ran into #Skinheads and #Rudegirls on my family’s annual trip to #Disneyland. Mid-nineties it was very common to see kids with #bomberjackets and #2tone patches at the #MagicKingdom. Girls with #Bob haircuts, white #polos and black #pencilskirts. I wonder how many of them are still around? Roll out and have a look with me. (at Main Street, U.S.A.)
Ok, I’ll be there!
