I wish I still had the G.I. Joe action figures I owned as a kid. Sadly they are all (100’s of them) buried in a backyard of the home that I grew up in, South Central L.A. I wonder if they were dug up by the new owners.
I look forward to watching this movie, Hell Yeah!!!
On June 19, 2009 the So-Cal Speed Shop crew opened their doors to the public. Pomona California was over run by more than 500 Hot Rods in what has become a kick off party for the LA Roadsters show. Ignition 3 was on hand to give you a front row seat.
50 Indie, Shoegaze and Brit Pop songs from the last millennium of the United Kingdom.
Today, the company I work for will be opening the doors to the public. This will mark our 13th annual and my 4th year working the show. Last year we had about 600 cars and over a thousand people come hang out and show off their automotive masterpieces. This year we expect more! It’s gonna be a long but eventful day. I’ll post photos later.

Update: Here’s some coverage of the show from my good friend Antonio Alvendia @ Motor Mavens.
Glad they won but I totally do not support the city’s contribution of a million dollars. Mayor Villaraigosa claims that it was funded by private investors such as AEG, so that us tax payers don’t have to pay for it, but I am not so sure that claim is 100% true.I don’t know. Still proud of our Lakers though.
I can see my girlfriend Kristy rolling her eyes right about now, Ha ha ha!
Here’s some screen caps I got from the news coverage courtesy of media.myfoxla.com.

Close to one hundred-thousand people ditching work and school.
I can only imagine the madness after the parade. Riots!

Now, I patiently wait for the footage of the fools that will start trouble after the event.
How do you feel about the Mayors choice on having the parade?
This morning on my way to work, driving half asleep, I witnessed a group of 6 kids dancing at the bus stop. I had to scratch my head a bit because I wasn’t sure if they were messing around or if they were really serious. You know I am getting old when I can say, WTF are those kids doing?
Well, It turns out that its the latest dance craze, the Jerk! Not only is it popular amongst the kids in the black neighborhoods but also in the burbs where the white boys can also do it. L.A’s very own New Boyz have lead the way with their single “You’re a Jerk”.
If you know me, you know that I love old skool hip hop music with heavy bass! “You’re a Jerk” definitely has that bass, but I can’t say much for the hook. Ha. You be the judge though. There are plenty of videos on youtube with kids Jerkin’.

You know who else can Jerk?

CSULA C/O 2009 - You did it!
Tetris version from the Nintendo Gameboy
SCORE! I forgot how much I loved playing this game. It’s been ages since I last played this version (about 20 years). The theme song for this game is classic and burned into my memory!
On my first try, I was able to make it to level 6 with 13340 points. I’m a bit rusty, but try and beat that!
BTW… Thanks to the Google home page I was able to find this site.
This is what their Google image header looked like tonight. Cool.

The guys at Rollo & Grady definitely have some great taste in music. Rollo & Grady post music that is currently hot in the local indie scene, but what I like about their blog is that on ocassions they’ll post songs that I really connect with, mostly 80’s music. Ha ha I’m aging myself here.
Today they posted their regular “Remixes that won’t make your ears bleed” set and the first song on the list brought back a memory that I share with my girlfriend Kristy. The song is a Krikor remix of Q Lazzarus’ Good Bye Horses that was re-popularized when it was played in the movie Silence of the Lambs. It was the song that Buffalo Bill sang while he danced and applied make-up to himself as the chubby Senators daughter screamed for help from the pit she was dumped into.
In early 2005, I remember that Kristy and spent countless weeks (maybe more) looking for the song Good-bye Horses to add to her Ipod, but we came up with nothing. It seemed as though the song was pretty rare and you could only get it unless you bought the soundtrack to Silence of the Lambs or if you had the original on vinyl. Anyway, we eventually found it as an MP3 download and it was great to share it with her. She loves that song. I don’t remember anymore where it was that I found it. Now you can get the song from the numerous music sites that sell mp3’s and you can even find free downloads, but I still get excited when I randomly find it somewhere like Rollo & Grady.
The remixed version is pretty cool. I like that they didn’t turn it into some Italo Disco or Nu-Rave version. It sticks to it’s original format but with an upbeat tempo. Word.
The song was downloaded via www.rollogrady.com, enjoy
I will be updtaing the progress of my bike build here, so you better get used to seeing a lot of my 1976 Yamaha XS500.
Update UNO: Saturday, May 30, 2009
With the help of my buddy Tony S., we started the morning by checking the timing on the bike since it won’t stay on at the moment. No luck with that, Tony did most of the work to be honest because thankfully he’s a bit more mechanically inclined than I am. We spent most of the morning on that. The gas tank is missing its petcocks and we needed to get some gas into the carbs so we “mickey moused” a way to get fuel into the carbs by adapting a plastic T-nozzle to a rubber hose and a funnel. We poured gasoline in it and it worked great, but unfortunately the bike didn’t stay on. The timing was still off, so more tweaking was needed. At one point we finally got the bike to Idle for about 10-seconds before it quit. We decided to give it a break since there wasn’t much we could do after that… until we get new the points and condenser rebuild kit that is.
We didn’t want to waste anytime we had available, so out came the cutter and grinder. We first removed some of the “UGLY” parts on the bike. This included the crash bars, rear fender, blinkers, seat handles (welded to frame), extra foot pegs and the air box. There were several areas on the frame that had mounts and adapters that needed to be cut off and grinded down, so I did that while Tony began on the tank/seat.
When I first got the bike it was a complete mess, I know, I know it still is. The tank was filled with rust and the gas cap was sealed shut on it, so I found a replacement on eBay and immediately bought it. I then got the idea to use the old one as a tail piece. The tank on the bike was the main reason I wanted it. In my opinion, It is similar to what the Norton Manx-style tanks look-like but it also reminds me of the movie Mad Max. One of my favorite movies of all time to say the least. Using the old tank as the tail piece will be a perfect match.
More updates to come… Here’s some pictures.
